True Self Recovery, a drug and alcohol treatment program with locations in Rogers and Holiday Island, Arkansas, announced Tuesday that they have been awarded $200,000 in opioid settlement dollars from the Arkansas Opioid Recovery Partnership. True Self Recovery will use this funding to offer the highest level of clinical and medical care to ensure lasting sobriety, personal growth, and lifelong recovery for people suffering from opioid addiction.
The opioid epidemic has especially impacted Arkansas. Statistics from the Arkansas Department of Health show that the opioid dispensing rate per 100 people in 2020 was 82.59. This means that for every 100 people, there were nearly 83 opioid prescriptions dispensed in the state. This inundation of opioids into Arkansas led to catastrophic consequences for its residents. In 2021, 618 Arkansans lost their lives to opioid overdoses, an increase from 546 Arkansans in 2020 and 401 Arkansans in 2016.
Over the next year, True Self Recovery will use the settlement to provide evidence-based addiction treatment programs, including medically supervised detoxification, medication-assisted treatment, and residential treatment to people with opioid use disorder in the rural populations that have been hit the hardest by the opioid epidemic but who have been historically underserved and overlooked.
This project comes with the support of Richard McCormac, Mayor of Clinton, AR, Roxie Hall, Mayor of Ozark, AR, Rickey Bowman, Franklin County Judge, and Dale James, Van Buren County Judge. Additional support was provided by Ashley LaHue of Insight Peer Support, Mary Haynes, Recovery Coach at ARCare, Michelle Barrett, Coordinator at Benton Co. Specialty Court, and Benjamin W. Carlyle, MD of ARCare.
